Lanzarote is well known for its spectacular beaches; you can find beaches to suit all tastes and activities. In Lanzarote, you can find a delightful array of different beaches so whether you prefer fine, white, volcanic sandy beaches or rocky coves accompanied by the tranquil lull of the ocean or crashing waves, there is something for everyone. The beaches range from quiet nudist beaches to activity filled shores where water sport enthusiasts can enjoy their favourite past-time.
We are going to explore Lanzarote’s main beaches one by one in this mini series of articles so why not try them out for yourself to see how they fit? In this blog post, we thought it would be a good idea to start with a beach that is located in the same municipality as Casa Tomarén: San Bartolomé and more specifically, in the town of Playa Honda.
There are two main beaches in Playa Honda, namely Playa Honda and Playa de Guacimeta.
PLAYA HONDA:
Even though this area is primarily residential, there is more than enough for tourists to enjoy. You would have probably noticed the town on your approach to the airport as it is located beside it and it is also a core industrial area on Lanzarote where some of the island’s largest warehouses are housed as well as Deiland Shopping Centre. Playa Honda is in a prime location on the east coast of the island with Arrecife, the capital to the north; Puerto del Carmen to the south and San Bartolomé to the west and as mentioned, there are two sandy beaches right in the centre.
Playa Honda Beach:
This beach is an impressive, long, white sandy beach of 1.900m in length and approximately 100m wide with a grand promenade running alongside it. You can enjoy a daytime run of the restaurants and bars dotted along the coast where you can observe how your children play in the sand and in the soft waves while you enjoy a cold drink. In the evening, you can make the most of the promenade for a wonderful evening stroll after a big meal at one of the nearby restaurants. This beach is safe for bathing and frequented by families with small children. Organized families events also take place here including kite shows and the like.
Playa de Guacimeta:
This beach is situated right beside Lanzarote’s only airport of the same name. Guacimeta is also a white sandy bach with calm waters even though at times the wind does pick up which makes it an ideal spot for a bit of windsurfing. The beach measures 1.050m in length and roughly 40m in width. If you take a walk along this beach, you will more than likely come across avid plane spotters who lie in wait of oncoming aircraft to capture the craziest photos possible. You may also witness the occasional horse race along the shore, attracting a large crowd of onlookers.

Both beaches are easily accessible by regular public transport and nearby parking and are well maintained by cleaning crews to ensure we can all continue to enjoy these two fantastic beaches.
